Stuart Carlaw
Research Director, Wireless
Stuart Carlaw focuses on analysis of short range wireless connectivity technologies as well as the global market for mobile devices, providing research content leadership for ABI Research in both of these key areas.
He brings to the task a deep understanding of the critical issues and technologies, stemming from his immersion in both markets for over decade as both an analyst and an engineer.
Prior to joining ABI Research, Stuart was a Telecommunications Technician in the British Army, and then Senior Analyst and later Wireless Research Director at IMS Research. At IMS he was the primary Bluetooth analyst, and responsible for all short range wireless research.
He has been quoted and published in a variety of industry and general media, including BBC TV, BBC Radio 5, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, EE Times and many more, and has spoken, moderated or participated in industry events including WiMAX World, TETRA World Congress, Bluetooth SIG AHM, PTT World Congress, and Freescale Technology Forum.
Stuart earned a B.Sc (Honours) in Physical Sciences and Business Management from De Montfort University.
Philip Solis
Principal Analyst, Mobile Broadband
As part of ABI Research's Networking research group, Philip Solis focuses on market analysis of embedded Wi-Fi, mobile WiMAX, VoWi-Fi, cellular modems, and Wi-Fi semiconductors.
Phil's combination of educational background, industry experience and familiarity with a broad range of research fields allows him to deliver research that reflects the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of mobile communications.
Prior to joining ABI Research, Phil worked as a Sales Engineer in the Enterprise Solutions Group of Verizon Communications, a role in which he provided technical sales support for ISP partners and also designed, recommended and implemented telecommunications network solutions. Earlier, he held positions as Engineering Specialist in the Network Engineering Center, and Manager in the Telesector Resource Group at Verizon.
Phil has been quoted and published in a variety of industry media, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Investor's Business Daily, BusinessWeek, EE Times, GigaOm and WiFiNetNews, and has spoken, moderated or participated in industry events including Wi-Fi Planet, WCA Symposium, WCA International, WiMAX World, and GlobalComm (WiMAX Strategies).
Phil holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and has an MBA with a dual concentration in Marketing and Information Systems from Pace University's Lubin School of Business.
